Revision Hip Replacement

The vast majority of patients having a hip replacement will never require further surgery to that joint. A small number of patients with long-standing hip replacements may eventually experience significant wear of the components. Typically this takes many years to occur and is likely to become less common in the future with the constant development of more advanced implants. Badly worn components may loosen and become painful. In such an instance revision surgery may be required to change the hip implants and alleviate discomfort. Patients are generally fully weight bearing from the day of their revision surgery.
