Revision Knee Joint Replacement

The vast majority of patients having a knee replacement will never require further surgery and their implants will last them the rest of their lives. A small number of patients with long-standing knee replacements may eventually experience significant wear of the components. Typically this takes many years to occur and is likely to become less common in the future with the development of increasingly advanced implants. Badly worn components may loosen and become painful. In some instances an old knee replacement may begin to feel unstable. In such circumstances a revision knee replacement may be recommended to alleviate pain and restore a stable, well-aligned knee. Patients are generally fully weight bearing from the day of their revision surgery.
